TikTok, a short-form video sharing app, has been accused of promoting obscene contents which people believe is a negative impact on youths.
It all began when an Indian Youtuber, CarryMinati, shared a video titled ‘Youtube vs TikTok: The End’ where he called out the app creators for plagiarising contents from Youtube, among other things.
However, youtube was forced to take down his video after it created a social media war between TikTok fans and Youtubers. Not only has the incident caused havoc on social media, but it has severely affected its play store ratings.
In less than a week, the app has been downrated from 4.6 to 2, with several Indian users calling for a ban and trending #TikTokBan and #TikTokExposed on social media. TikTok Lite has been affected even worse with its Play Store rating dropping to 1.1. The ByteDance-owned platform has also been lashed for its weak content moderation policies, which approve the sharing of harmful and abusive videos.
Many influencers have invited the wrath of social media users for promoting acid attacks on women, rape, misogyny, and other disturbing contents. Some of these videos have up to a million views, which is the cause of the problem.
The National Commission of Women, Chairman Rekha Sharma has informed the youth government for a complete ban on tha app for promoting unpleasant content thereby leaving a negative impact on the youth.
